Yup, those are called contractures, which basically means my muscles have become stiff like a frozen rubber band. In my most recent picture, I’m laying on my back, so gravity is working against me, which is why my arms are flopped awkwardly on my chest. They’re not locked in that position when I’m sitting, but my elbows don’t straighten much past 90 degrees (a right angle) and my wrists only go slightly straighter than you see in that picture. Weird, right?
Even though I’m not personally a fan of the “severely atrophied and contractured” look, all that really matters is I can still use my arms and hands with a pretty high level of functionality, given the circumstances. So for that, I am grateful.
Plus, some people think I look like a cute little baby T-Rex, and that doesn’t bother me either.
