Hello, I'm Shane Burcaw. I'm 20 years old and I have a disease called Spinal Muscular Atrophy that will eventually kill me. I have been in a wheelchair since I was two. I’m starting at a new neuromuscular clinic today, since I’m too old to be seen by the pediatric doctors that have been seeing me all my life.
I’m going pretend that I’m completely unaware of my disease and fake confusion when they start asking me questions.
“How old were you when you started showing symptoms of SMA?”
“SM what?”
